Hello and Welcome to the 2008 Bears Cheer Season!
I would like to start by introducing your 2008 Cheer Board Members. I am Selena Hernandez the Cheer Director, Kylene Pase is the Assistant Cheer Director and Liwan Gallop is the Cheer Equipment Manager. Lisa Bosco, having dedicated 11 years of herself to the Bears, has resigned as an official Board Member but is still helping tremendously to ensure a smooth transition. If you have ANY questions at all on anything, do not hesitate to contact any of us!
We are very excited and looking forward to a GREAT 2008! For those of you who will be first year Bears, please ask all the questions that come to mind. Having been with another organization until 2006, I was even a little lost myself last year when I moved to the Bears. It can be a bit overwhelming for anyone who isn’t used to how the program operates. Just keep an eye on your email, and we’ll do our best to keep you as up-to-date and informed as possible! For our veterans, thank you for another year!!! We are proud to have you back. Your loyalty and continuous dedication is what keeps this program at the level it is. Many of your coaches have already begun this year’s competition routine and ordered music. The fun has already begun and we can’t wait ‘til July when you all arrive and put this planning into action!
Communication: I have forwarded your email addresses to your coaches and you will begin receiving notices from them shortly as well. Please note: the majority of all communication, both cheer and football, is handled via email with the Brandon Bears. If you have an alternate email address you would like to provide, it will be kept private and not be shared with anyone other than myself, Kylene, Liwan and your coach. If your daughter has an email address, we would love to add that as well.
Registration: Both closed and open cheer registration has started off with a bang! With nearly 30 girls more than last year at this time, we are anticipating even bigger squads. If you have friends who would like join, get them in soon! We may for the first time hit capacity on a cheer squad. Keep in mind that the WCYFC realigned ages January 9, 2008. The new league ages are as follows:
Mascots 5-7
Super 8-9
Midgets 10-11
JV 12-13
Varsity 14-15
Leagues age is determined by the cheerleaders age on July 31, 2008.
Fitting: We will be holding the Bears cheer fitting on Saturday, April 12, 2008. This is when the girls will be fitted for their uniform, practice set and shoes. Please bring CLEAN SOCKS to try on shoes and WEAR A SWIMSUIT as the girls will be changing in a large, open room in front of one another. We will be asking that all parents, especially Dads, refrain from entering the fitting area for other cheerleaders’ privacy. The times are outlined by squad to avoid crowding, but please do attend even if you must do so outside of your scheduled block. If you cannot make it, please contact me so that we can make other arrangements. With a possible shortage of uniforms, it is imperative that we fit the girls EARLY to ensure they all have a uniform by the first game.

We will also be registering girls who were unable to attend the March 22nd date at this time. So, bring some friends!!! ;-)
Tumbling: Don’t forget the tumbling class this Friday! For those of you planning to attend, arrive no later than 6:30 to the Brandon All-star gym, preferably by 6:20. The required paperwork is attached to this email. If you cannot open the attachment, I will have extra copies with me at the gym. The cost is $10 and the class will run from 6:30-8:00. PLEASE reply and let me know that you will be attending, even if you aren’t completely sure yet. The all-stars want to make sure they have plenty of coaches for the girls planning to attend.
